During this situation in the middle of a pandemic I decided to join online courses via coursera and I found out that Google was offering different courses related with the IT field:

“Organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful.” Since the beginning, Google’s goal has been to develop services that significantly improve the lives of as many people as possible. Not just for some. For everyone.

I decided to go for the Google IT Support course (duration of 3 to 6 month) since it offers a big variety of concepts in different fields as:

  1. Technical Support Fundamentals
  2. The Bits and Bytes of Computer Networking
  3. Operating Systems and You: Becoming a Power Use
  4. System Administration and It Infrastructure Services
  5. IT Security: Defense against the digital dark arts

The contents are solid and it’s shared thro videos of different teachers that you will meet thro the course and they present as well the transcription of the video in case you are more a read-to-study type of person.

The course is distributed for weeks and you will have to take several exams at the end of each lesson in order to get the Certificate.

The first (Technical Support Fundamentals) course makes an introduction to the world of IT from the beginning of 1 and 0 to the introduction of the Operating Systems, what is the Internet, which are the parts of a PC and how is it build, etc. It gives a good start-pack for what is to come for the next courses since they will go deep in this subjects.

The exams are very well presented, mainly they are “choose answer type” and the ones that surprised for good the most were the ones where in order to proved that you understood how to manage and go thro an Operating System, via the Remote Control Connection you are able to connect to different Virtual Machines and use Linux OS and Windows OS depending on the subject and do the tasks they ask to.

To conclude, I will say that for 40€ a month, it’s definitely a course I would recommend for everyone who is interested in IT or has a minimum curiosity about computers.

Grow with Google makes it very easy and reachable for everyone even if you don’t have a degree or background in IT, and that grows the motivation for people to wanting to learn.

For now, I have completed the first Fundamental Course and I will continue to go deep into the subjects, it really cough my eye! At the end of each course you get a Certificate which you can later post on Linkedin or in your CV. So what are you waiting for, you have no excuse to start learning the IT world!!
